Kathmandu, Sep 11 (V7N) – Dramatic footage of ministers fleeing amid Nepal’s ongoing Gen-G protests has surfaced on social media, showing government officials and their families escaping by clinging to a rescue sling dropped from an army helicopter.
One viral video released Thursday depicts a military helicopter hovering above a minister’s residence while thick black smoke billows across the sky. The minister and several family members are seen holding onto the sling before being airlifted to safety.
Since the protests erupted, the homes of several ministers and senior officials have been set ablaze, while others have faced public harassment and physical assaults, prompting many to flee under army protection.
The movement began after the government imposed a ban on social media, sparking outrage among Nepal’s youth, widely referred to as the Gen-G generation. Initially peaceful, the protests quickly turned violent. On Tuesday, demonstrators launched coordinated arson attacks and vandalism targeting government and private buildings across Kathmandu.
Amid mounting unrest, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli resigned, and the government declared a state of emergency, imposing a strict curfew. The army has since been deployed to patrol the capital, warning residents to remain indoors unless absolutely necessary.
