Abu Dhabi, May 05 (V7N) — The United Arab Emirates has reported a major security incident after multiple missiles and drones launched from Iran targeted its airspace on Monday, significantly heightening tensions across the Gulf region.
In a statement, the United Arab Emirates Ministry of Defence said its air defense systems were fully activated and successfully engaged a combination of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and unmanned aerial vehicles approaching the country. The ministry emphasized that defensive operations were conducted in line with national security protocols to neutralize aerial threats and protect critical infrastructure.
Despite interception efforts, one drone managed to strike an oil facility in the emirate of Fujairah, triggering a fire. According to the Fujairah Media Office, emergency teams were immediately dispatched to the scene. Civil defense and firefighting units worked to control the blaze and prevent it from spreading to nearby installations. Authorities later confirmed that the fire was brought under control.
No casualties have been reported so far, and officials stated that damage assessments are ongoing. Security has been tightened across key energy and infrastructure sites nationwide as a precautionary measure.
There has been no immediate response from Iranian authorities regarding the reported attack. However, analysts suggest the incident reflects a broader pattern of rising geopolitical friction in the Middle East, where tensions have escalated in recent months involving regional powers and strategic assets.
The development has raised concerns among international observers about the potential impact on global energy markets, given the UAE’s role as a key oil exporter and Fujairah’s strategic importance as a major oil storage and shipping hub.
The situation remains fluid, with authorities continuing to monitor the airspace and maintain heightened alert levels amid fears of further escalation.
