Birbhum, Aug 17 (V7N)- At least seven people have died and several others were injured after a fire broke out at a hotel in Tarapith, a temple town in West Bengal's Birbhum district, India.

According to NDTV, the fire broke out at a four-storey hotel early Monday morning (August 17), when most of the guests were asleep.

The fire reportedly started on the ground floor at around 4:30am and quickly spread to several rooms. Many guests became trapped inside before they could escape.

After receiving information, firefighters rushed to the scene and brought the blaze under control. The injured were rescued and taken to Rampurhat Government Medical College and Hospital for treatment.

The fire service initially suspects that an electrical short circuit may have caused the fire.

Police also reached the scene and launched an investigation into the incident. Authorities are working to determine the exact cause of the fire and whether any safety violations contributed to the deaths.
