Extraction of honey from Sundarbans has started on Tuesday.  Death of 25 poachers. Distribution of Eid gifts among 5 families killed in tiger attack.
 
Honey extraction has started from Sundarbans.  Member of Parliament Ataul inaugurated the honey collection process at Buurigoalini Primary School ground adjacent to the Sundarbans as the honey collection season started from Monday (April 1). 
 
 
Dr. Abu Nasser Mohsin, Western Divisional Forest Officer of Sundarban Forest Division was present.  25 poachers formally killed themselves on this occasion.  They swore they would never hunt deer again.  On the same occasion, Sundar Ban Forest Department distributed Eid material among 5 families killed in tiger attack.
 
The coast guards from this morning.  They entered the forest with permission from different forest stations.  The honey extraction season from Sundarbans, the largest source of natural honey in the country, will continue till May 31.
 
 
This year, the target of honey extraction in Sundarbans West and East Division has been set at 2500 quintals.  And the target of wax extraction is 750 quintals.
 
The forest officials said, after entering the forest, the beekeepers are not allowed to use fire, torches or any similar inflammable materials and chemical substances to chase the bees while collecting honey for honey extraction.  Violators of this directive are subject to severe penalties under the Forest Act.
 
They will collect honey from various places including Baniakhali, Tetul Tala, Phultala, Sardar Ghat, Nuani, No. 4 Koira, Singa in Sundarbans.  Now honey from garan, bain and khalisa flowers can be found in the forest.
 
 
In 2022, the revenue from Sundarbans honey was 36 lakh 93 thousand 600 taka and from beeswax 15 lakh 31 thousand 200 taka.  That year, 2,320 quintals of honey and 696 quintals of wax were obtained from the Sundarbans.
 
In 2023, 1,225 quintals of honey and 367.5 quintals of wax were extracted.  And from this comes 27 lakh 68 thousand 500 taka government revenue.
