Dhaka, Oct 25 (V7N) –  General Waqar-uz-Zaman, the current Chief of Army Staff, has been elected unopposed as the new President of the Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA). The announcement was made on Friday by the BOA Election Commission, which declared him elected after only one valid nomination was submitted for the position.

General Waqar-uz-Zaman, who also serves as the president of the Bangladesh Federation, steps into the role following the resignation of his predecessor, General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, who stepped down upon his retirement as army chief. The election process was overseen by National Sports Council Secretary Aminul Islam, who acted as the Election Commissioner.

As the head of the country’s top sports organization, General Waqar-uz-Zaman is expected to lead initiatives aimed at strengthening Bangladesh’s presence in the international sports arena and enhancing local sports development programs.
