Manchester, England, Dec 15, (V7N)– Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola insists he has no regrets over signing a two-year contract extension, despite the club enduring one of its most challenging periods in recent years.

City, who have won just once in their last six games across all competitions, find themselves in a precarious position. The reigning Premier League champions sit fifth in the table, nine points behind leaders Liverpool. Adding to their woes, they’ve been knocked out of the FA Cup and are languishing in 22nd place in the Champions League standings, dangerously close to elimination.

Despite the turbulence, Guardiola remains steadfast in his decision to extend his stay at the club until 2027.

"No Regrets About Staying"

When asked if he regrets his commitment, Guardiola was unequivocal.

“Absolutely not,” he said. “I would not be able to sleep – even worse than now – if I thought I was leaving when the club is in this situation. Impossible. They might sack me, that could happen. But leaving now? No chance.”

The Spaniard, who joined City in 2016, has led the club to an unprecedented 18 major trophies, including a historic Treble last season. However, Guardiola emphasized that his work at City is far from over

Legacy Secured, But Ambitions Remain

“What we have done is done. The satisfaction of achieving it is there,” he said, reflecting on City’s achievements, including their maiden Champions League title in 2023. “But nothing is eternal. If I lose and keep losing, at some point I’d have to say, ‘Guys, get someone else.’”

Guardiola also expressed gratitude for the faith the club has shown in him, noting that not many clubs would tolerate such a dip in form.

“Ten games and lose seven? Most big clubs would not have this confidence,” he admitted.

A Long-Term Vision

While acknowledging the challenges, Guardiola remains committed to rebuilding the team and addressing the issues that have led to the recent slump.

“There are many things we have to do. This is an exceptional situation for many reasons,” he said, without delving into specifics.

With Guardiola at the helm, City will hope to bounce back and reclaim their position among Europe’s elite. For now, the pressure mounts as the manager works to steady the ship and prove that his faith in the project—and the club’s faith in him—is well-placed.
