SYDNEY, Feb 27, (V7N) – Australian spinner Matthew Kuhnemann expressed relief after being cleared of an illegal bowling action by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday.

Kuhnemann, a left-arm spinner, was reported for a suspect action following his crucial role in Australia's Test series victory in Sri Lanka earlier this month. However, after undergoing biomechanical testing, he was given the all-clear to continue his international career.

"It was a disappointing way to finish what was such a successful Test series for Australia," Kuhnemann said in a statement. "I've never doubted my bowling action throughout my career, and I'm always looking to improve the art of spin bowling in different conditions."

The ICC allows bowlers a maximum of 15 degrees of elbow flexion in their deliveries. Any action exceeding this limit is deemed illegal, which could result in suspension until the bowler makes corrections and passes a reassessment.

Kuhnemann, who has represented Australia in five Tests, four ODIs, and 55 T20 Big Bash League matches since his debut in 2017, has not played since the Sri Lanka series due to a thumb injury. However, he confirmed that he expects to return to action for Tasmania soon.

"I thought the process itself was quite fair, and I appreciated the professional manner in which testing was explained to me and then conducted," he added.

With the ICC's clearance, Kuhnemann is now eligible to resume playing at all levels, providing Australia with another spin option as they prepare for upcoming international fixtures.
