Standing at five feet ten inches with a distinctive shaggy hairstyle, Hamza Chowdhury has been a prominent figure in the English football scene. Despite being born and raised in England, his roots trace back to Bahubal Upazila in Habiganj district, Bangladesh. His father, Dewan Golam Morshed Chowdhury, and mother, Rafia Chowdhury, reside in their hometown of Snanghat, though Hamza himself has spent much of his life outside Bangladesh.
Hamza first expressed his desire to play for Bangladesh in October 2022, after which he visited his homeland several times. Despite the long wait, he is now set to represent his country on the football field.
Hamza’s journey into football began at the young age of 5, when he joined the Loughborough Football Club. His talent did not go unnoticed, and by the time he was 18, he was signed by Leicester City. Hamza captained the club's Under-23 team and went on to play for England’s Under-21 team, making 7 appearances. His performances caught the eye of several scouts, with Leicester City securing his services in 2015.
Over the years, Hamza’s career blossomed at Leicester City, where he won two major trophies – the English FA Cup in 2021 and the English Super Cup in 2022. Now playing for Sheffield United, Hamza continues to impress with his skills and determination in the midfield.
Hamza’s journey to representing Bangladesh has been a long one, but it is now finally becoming a reality. Fans are eager to see the Sheffield United midfielder make his mark for the Bangladesh national team, as he faces India in the upcoming match.
Hamza’s story is an inspiring one, showing how passion and dedication can take a young boy from Loughborough to representing his ancestral homeland on the international stage.
