Dhaka, Mar 24 (V7N) – Bangladesh's former cricket captain Tamim Iqbal has regained consciousness after suffering a heart attack during a Dhaka Premier League (DPL) match at BKSP. His condition has improved, easing the concerns of fans and well-wishers.

Tamim, who had a stent placed in his heart, has spoken to his family members who rushed to the hospital upon hearing the news. However, doctors have advised that he remains under 48-hour observation before any further decisions regarding his discharge.

Dr. Rajib Hasan, director of KPG Specialized Hospital (formerly Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hospital) in Savar, provided an update on Tamim's condition.

"He fell ill around 9:30 AM at BKSP. Initially, we considered transferring him to Dhaka, but due to various complications, it was not possible. His condition then deteriorated, and we had to provide emergency treatment," Dr. Hasan stated.

Tamim underwent an angiogram, angioplasty, and stent placement, performed by cardiologist Dr. Moniruzzaman Maruf.

"The procedure went smoothly, and the blockage has been completely cleared. He was in a critical state, but now he is stable and under observation," Dr. Hasan added.

After leaving the hospital, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Director Mahbub Anam confirmed that Tamim would be closely monitored for the next 48 hours.

"His condition is better than before, but we are following medical advice and keeping him under observation," Anam said.

Tamim's family has chosen not to comment on his condition at this moment.

Tamim, who was representing Mohammedan Sporting Club, was playing a DPL match against Shinepukur Cricket Club at BKSP when he suddenly fell ill while fielding.

Initially, he rested and attempted to return to the field, but his condition worsened, prompting an emergency medical response. He was rushed to KPG Specialized Hospital, where he was diagnosed with a heart attack and underwent immediate treatment.

Fans, teammates, and cricket officials are hopeful for his speedy recovery, while the BCB continues to monitor his health closely.
