LONDON, April 1, (V7N) – Celtic Boys Club Abuse Survivors Secure Seven-Figure Settlement 20 legal claims of historical sexual abuse at Celtic Boys Club in Scotland have been settled for a seven-figure sum, according to lawyers representing the victims.
Thompsons Solicitors, acting on behalf of 30 former Celtic Boys Club players, confirmed that 70 percent of the cases have been resolved by Celtic Plc, with further settlements expected in the coming weeks.
The lawsuits stem from abuse committed at the youth club, which was not officially affiliated with Celtic Football Club, by convicted paedophiles James Torbett and Frank Cairney.
Laura Connor, a partner at Thompsons Solicitors, stated, "Our clients trusted us to fight for them and ensure their voices were heard. This case was made unnecessarily complex by the defender, but our clients have maintained their dignity. At last, they have achieved justice."
A Scottish court previously ruled that legal action against Celtic Plc could proceed, rejecting arguments that the boys' club was a separate entity from Celtic FC.
Celtic FC, which has previously expressed disgust over any form of abuse, has been contacted for comment. A 2021 report urged Scottish football clubs to issue unreserved apologies to victims of historic child sex abuse, following a wave of allegations dating back to the 1970s–1990s.
