Madrid, May 12 (V7N) – Spanish football legend Xabi Alonso is set to become the new head coach of Real Madrid, according to several prominent Spanish media outlets. Alonso, currently managing Bayer Leverkusen, has reportedly agreed to a three-year contract with the Spanish giants.
The news was confirmed by renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano, who stated that the agreement between Real Madrid and Alonso has been finalized, including the formation of his coaching staff at the Santiago Bernabéu. Alonso is expected to take charge after the conclusion of the 2023–24 Bundesliga season and will lead the team during the Club World Cup this summer.
Alonso will succeed Carlo Ancelotti, who has been managing Los Blancos since his second appointment in 2021. The 2024–25 season is scheduled to conclude on May 25, and Real Madrid is planning a formal farewell ceremony for Ancelotti on that day.
Commenting on his successor, Ancelotti praised Alonso’s credentials and welcomed his return to the Bernabéu.
“I’ve learned that Alonso is leaving Bayer Leverkusen. He has done an incredible job, and the door is open for him,” said the Italian tactician.
“He has proven that he is one of the best in the world.”
Xabi Alonso, a former Real Madrid midfielder and Champions League winner with the club, has impressed the football world with his transformative work at Bayer Leverkusen. Under his leadership, the German club has displayed consistent tactical discipline, attacking flair, and title contention.
His appointment marks a new era for Real Madrid as they look to build a long-term project around a young, dynamic coach who understands the club's philosophy from within.
