Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi unveils a revamped men's national selection committee with seven members wielding equal authority, aiming for a more democratic decision-making process.
Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has introduced significant reforms to the men's national selection committee, opting for a reorganized structure with seven members possessing equal decision-making powers. Speaking at a press conference held at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium, Naqvi emphasized the need for a more inclusive and democratic approach to team selection.
Under the revamped committee, there will no longer be a designated chairman, with all seven members empowered to make decisions collectively based on majority consensus. Notable figures joining the committee include Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Yousuf, Asad Shafique, and Abdul Razzaq, all of whom were present at the press briefing.
In addition to former cricketers, the selection committee will feature the captain of the Pakistan team, the head coach, and a designated "data person" to provide analytical insights. Naqvi reiterated that the PCB management, including himself, would refrain from influencing team selection, acknowledging the expertise of the committee members in making informed decisions.
Naqvi also addressed the reinstatement of cricketer Imad Wasim, who rescinded his retirement from international cricket ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup. The chairman stressed the importance of fielding a strong team for the tournament, citing Imad's recall as part of the strategic preparations.
Furthermore, Naqvi provided updates on the contractual status of pace bowler Haris Rauf, whose contract was reinstated following a review by the PCB. He affirmed the board's commitment to allocating resources towards enhancing the team's performance and fostering cricket development in the country.
Responding to queries, Naqvi expressed optimism about the expansion of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) and the establishment of a women's cricket league, aligning with previous commitments made by the PCB. He assured stakeholders of forthcoming developments in women's cricket, promising tangible outcomes within a few months.
The overhaul of the national selection committee comes amid preparations for the T20 World Cup, scheduled to commence from June 1. With a renewed focus on merit-based selections and collaborative decision-making, the PCB aims to strengthen Pakistan's cricketing prospects on the global stage.
