Argentina continued their perfect run at the Copa America on Saturday with a 2-0 victory over Peru in Miami, despite the absence of Lionel Messi. Lautaro Martinez scored both goals at the Hard Rock Stadium, ensuring Argentina's advancement to the quarter-finals as Group A winners.

With Messi sidelined due to a sore right hamstring and coach Lionel Scaloni serving a one-game suspension, Argentina made nine changes to their starting XI. Nevertheless, the revamped line-up controlled the game against a lackluster Peru, who managed just one shot on goal throughout the match.

Martinez opened the scoring shortly after halftime with a deft finish over Peru goalkeeper Pedro Gallese, following a superb through ball from Angel Di Maria. Argentina had an opportunity to extend their lead in the 72nd minute when Jesus Castillo's handball conceded a penalty. However, Leandro Paredes missed the spot-kick, hitting the woodwork.

Martinez secured his second goal in the 86th minute, capitalizing on a long pass and finishing past Gallese. Although replays suggested a shove on defender Aldo Corzo during the buildup, referee Cesar Ramos allowed the goal to stand despite Peru's protests.

Argentina will face the runner-up from Group B in the quarter-finals in Houston next Thursday, likely either Ecuador or Mexico.

In another Group A match, Canada held 2015 and 2016 Copa America champions Chile to a 0-0 draw in Orlando, securing their place in the last eight. Chile needed a win to advance but faced an uphill battle after Gabriel Suazo received a second yellow card in the 27th minute. Canada will now play the winners of Group B in the quarter-finals.
