Ecuador secured a spot in the quarter-finals of the Copa America with a nerve-wracking 0-0 draw against Mexico on Sunday, while Venezuela clinched the top position in Group B with a commanding 3-0 win over Jamaica.

In Glendale, Arizona, Ecuador only needed a draw to progress on goal difference and managed to withstand a relentless late assault from Mexico. Despite the sustained pressure, Ecuador's defense held firm, with goalkeeper Alexander Dominguez making a crucial save from Johan Vasquez in the 71st minute, and Santiago Gimenez hitting the post six minutes earlier.

The match almost took a dramatic turn in the dying moments of added time when referee Mario Escobar awarded Mexico a penalty after Felix Torres was adjudged to have fouled Guillermo Martinez. However, VAR intervened, and replays showed Torres had made contact with the ball, leading to the decision being overturned and securing Ecuador's progression.

Ecuador will now face Group A winners Argentina in the quarter-finals in Houston on Thursday.

Meanwhile, Venezuela ensured their place at the top of Group B with a flawless 3-0 victory over Jamaica. Already assured of a quarter-final spot, Venezuela preserved their perfect record with goals from Eduard Bello, Salomon Rondon, and Eric Ramirez.

Bello opened the scoring in the 49th minute, heading in a cross from Jon Aramburu. Rondon doubled the lead seven minutes later, capitalizing on a through ball from Yangel Herrera to score past Jamaica's goalkeeper Jahmali Waite. The win was sealed in the 85th minute when Ramirez finished a move set up by Kervin Andrade.

Venezuela will face Group A runners-up Canada in Arlington on Friday, aiming for a place in the semi-finals.
