NYC, Nov 06 (V7N)- In a significant win, Republicans have regained control of the US Senate, ending the Democrats' four-year majority and setting the stage for potential shifts across branches of the American government, US media reported early Wednesday.

This Republican victory grants the incoming president considerable legislative backing to push forward their agenda and secure appointments to the influential US Supreme Court if it’s Donald Trump. However, if Kamala Harris is elected, it could result in legislative stalemates between the two parties.

The US Congress consists of the House of Representatives, where all 435 seats are up for election, and the 100-member Senate, which had 34 seats contested this cycle.

Republican Jim Justice, the current governor of West Virginia, won a Senate seat early in the night, bringing joy to his party as he replaced retiring independent Joe Manchin, who often sided with Democrats. Shortly after, Ohio joined the Republican side when Bernie Moreno, a Trump-backed businessman, unseated long-standing Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown.

Fox News and ABC declared the Senate under Republican control following Republican Senator Deb Fischer’s win in Nebraska against a strong independent candidate.

Expressing his excitement, Texas Senator John Cornyn, a possible future leader of the Republican Senate majority, stated, "I look forward to working with President Trump and our new conservative majority to make America great again by making the Senate work again."

With this, the Republicans overturned the previous 51-49 Democratic Senate margin and are eyeing further gains with potential wins in Montana, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania.
