As Muslims around the world mark the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan, US President Joe Biden has offered a unique greeting, pledging to prioritize efforts to secure an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza crisis. In a statement released by the White House on Monday (March 10), Biden expressed solidarity with the Palestinian people and reiterated the United States' commitment to alleviating their suffering.
"This month of Ramadan, as we reflect on the values of compassion and empathy, we cannot ignore the ongoing crisis in Gaza," Biden remarked. "The plight of the Palestinian people weighs heavily on my heart, as millions endure unimaginable hardship and displacement due to the conflict."
Acknowledging the sanctity of Ramadan as a time of purity and reflection, Biden emphasized the urgency of addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. He underscored the need for swift action to provide essential relief aid, including food, water, medicine, and shelter, to those in need.
In his message, Biden reassured the international community of the United States' commitment to spearheading efforts to secure a lasting ceasefire in Gaza, lasting at least six weeks, in exchange for the release of hostages. Additionally, Washington will continue its efforts to promote stability, security, and long-term peace in the region, with a focus on achieving a two-state solution.
"The pursuit of a two-state solution remains paramount to ensuring the equal rights, security, and dignity of both Palestinians and Israelis," Biden affirmed. "As we observe Ramadan and strive for a more peaceful world, let us redouble our efforts to forge a path towards lasting peace and prosperity for all."
