Beijing, Sept 26 (V7N) – China has imposed sanctions on six American companies, escalating tensions just as anticipation grows over a potential meeting between US President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping. The move was announced Thursday by China’s Ministry of Commerce, according to the Associated Press, (AP).

The ministry stated that three US companies have been added to China’s “unreliable entity list,” effectively banning them from conducting trade with Beijing. These companies were accused of engaging in military-technical cooperation with Taiwan, which China says gravely undermines its national sovereignty, security, and development interests.

The firms placed on the unreliable entity list include drone manufacturer Cernic Technologies, satellite company AerCom, and subsea engineering contractor Oceaneering International.

Separately, three other US companies have been added to China’s export control list, which prohibits them from receiving Chinese shipments of dual-use items applicable to both civilian and military sectors.

The companies affected by these restrictions are Huntington Ingalls Industries, a major US military shipbuilder; Planet Management Group, specializing in engineering and facilities management; and Global Dimensions, an intelligence and defense contracting firm.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce said these companies were sanctioned for actions deemed harmful to China’s national security and strategic interests.

The sanctions come at a sensitive moment in US-China relations, as both nations weigh diplomatic and economic maneuvering ahead of high-level talks. Analysts suggest the move underscores Beijing’s readiness to retaliate against American defense cooperation with Taiwan, an issue at the heart of growing geopolitical rivalry.
