Dhaka, Dec 09, (V7N) - A group of central coordinators from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has been allegedly attacked while traveling to Bandarban. The attack took place late at night on December 8, when the activists were en route to Lama in Bandarban from Dhaka.
In a Facebook post, Hasnat Abdullah, the convener of the movement, reported that their convoy was ambushed in Narayanganj. He stated, "The central coordinators' convoy of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement was attacked while on their way to Lama in Bandarban. Their bags and mobile phones were stolen, and several members were injured in the assault. We demand a thorough investigation and exemplary punishment for the perpetrators."
According to the details, the central coordinators were heading to an event in Lama, Bandarban, when they were ambushed near Meghna Bridge. A group of armed assailants, wielding local weapons, targeted their convoy and launched an unexpected attack. During the attack, four of the eight activists had their mobile phones and wallets snatched by the assailants. As of now, it is unclear who the attackers were, or what their motive was.
Earlier, on November 27, another incident occurred on the Chittagong-Cox's Bazar highway, where two other central coordinators, Hasnat Abdullah and Sarjis Alam, were allegedly run over by a truck. The driver of the truck was arrested following the incident. The next day, on November 28, Hasnat Abdullah was reportedly targeted again in a separate incident when an attempt was made on his life by running him over in the capital's Jatrabari area.
The ongoing attacks on the student leaders have raised serious concerns about their safety, and the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement has urged the authorities to take swift action to ensure justice and prevent further violence against its members.
