Dhaka, Sep 29 (V7N) – Home Affairs Advisor Lt. Gen. (retd.) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has alleged that unrest in Khagrachari is being fueled by “neighboring countries and fascist allies.”
He made the remarks while speaking to journalists after inaugurating the construction of five new DMP police stations in Ramna, Dhaka, on Monday (Sept 29).
The Advisor said, “A group is trying to prevent Durga Puja from taking place peacefully. This group is behind the incidents in Khagrachari, fueled by India or fascist forces. Maximum measures are being taken to prevent this situation. The Advisor on Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs is on the ground, coordinating with local leaders.”
He added that some armed terrorists have been firing from hilltops using weapons “brought in from foreign countries.” He called for the cooperation of all citizens to address the problem.
On the issue of Durga Puja, the Advisor remarked, “Our major religious festival has started from yesterday. I urge everyone to help ensure the puja is held smoothly and not to create any chaos during this festival.”
In response to a question on tourists stranded in the hills, he said that most have already been brought back safely.
