Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck is set to embark on a notable visit to Bangladesh's Padma Bridge on Wednesday, an emblem of the nation's determination in enhancing connectivity and driving economic development through entirely self-funded efforts.
Following his Padma Bridge tour, King Jigme will proceed to Araihazar, Narayanganj, to explore a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in the afternoon, gaining firsthand insights into the infrastructure and amenities available.
Scheduled to arrive at Araihazar around 12:30 pm on Wednesday, the king will be greeted by the Japanese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Iwama Kiminori, and the Executive Chairman of BEZA, Shaikh Yusuf Harun.
During his visit, he will engage in a video presentation and brief discussions, followed by an inspection of the Singer Bangladesh Limited construction site.
On Thursday afternoon, the King is slated to visit the Kurigram Special Economic Zone, which has garnered appreciation from Bhutan for its strategic placement and potential to boost bilateral trade and investment.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has already been signed between the authorities of Bhutan and Bangladesh regarding the Kurigram Economic Zone, signifying a significant step toward enhancing economic cooperation between the two nations.
After his visit to the Economic Zone in Kurigram, the King will proceed to the Sonahat Land Port, where he will be accorded a guard of honor by the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB).
King Jigme is scheduled to depart Bangladesh at 3:30 pm on Thursday via the Sonahat Land Port for Golakganj, Assam, where he will be seen off by State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury.
The state visit of the King to Bangladesh has further solidified the longstanding bonds of friendship, cooperation, and goodwill between the two nations, as highlighted in a joint statement.
Both parties expressed satisfaction with recent initiatives, such as the Agreement on the Movement of Traffic-in-Transit and its Protocol, which are poised to enhance bilateral trade and connectivity.
Additionally, cooperation in the power and energy sector remains a pivotal area, with emphasis on strengthening subregional collaboration among Bhutan, Bangladesh, and India.
The King extended invitations to President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to visit Bhutan, underscoring the ongoing efforts to deepen diplomatic relations and foster mutual prosperity.
