Dhaka, Dec 25 (V7N)- Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has been deployed at several key locations in the capital, including Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, Gulshan, and the July 36 Expressway (300 Feet area) in Purbachal, in connection with the return of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman to the country.

The BGB confirmed the deployment in a text message issued on Thursday morning (December 25), stating that the move is part of measures to strengthen overall security in the capital. However, the statement did not specify the number of BGB platoons deployed.

Earlier, the aircraft carrying Tarique Rahman landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 11:40 am on Thursday. After landing, he exchanged greetings with senior party leaders and family members at the airport.

The flight departed Osmani International Airport in Sylhet at around 11:00 am and landed in Dhaka after a journey of approximately 40 minutes. The aircraft had earlier arrived in Sylhet from London at 9:55 am.

After entering Bangladesh’s airspace on Thursday morning, Tarique Rahman shared a post on social media platform Facebook, writing: “After a long 6,314 days in the sky of Bangladesh.”

According to party sources, after leaving the airport, Tarique Rahman will proceed to the July 36 Expressway (300 Feet area) in Purbachal, where a reception has been arranged and he is scheduled to deliver a speech. He will later visit Evercare Hospital to see his mother, former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.

The deployment of additional security forces comes amid large gatherings of BNP leaders and activists in different parts of the capital to mark Tarique Rahman’s return.
