Dhaka, Feb 23 (V7N)- Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has announced that a new commission will be formed to reinvestigate the BDR mutiny that occurred in Peelkhana in 2009. He said the trial process will proceed based on the recommendations of this commission.
Salahuddin Ahmed made the announcement during a briefing at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Monday (February 23). Responding to journalists, he said the formation of the new commission is part of the party manifesto and that the government is committed to thoroughly reinvestigating the incident and establishing justice.
The Home Minister recalled that following the interim government led by Professor Muhammad Yunus, a seven-member independent commission was formed on December 24 to investigate the BDR killings. Former Director General of the BDR (now Border Guard Bangladesh), ALM Fazlur Rahman, headed that commission.
The previous inquiry commission submitted its report on November 30 to the then Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus. Its findings implicated the Awami League in the killings and also suggested involvement of India.
The new commission is expected to review these findings and provide recommendations for further legal proceedings.
