DHAKA, Sept 10, 2024 V7N – The government has taken a significant step to bolster agricultural production by approving the procurement of 25,000 metric tons (MT) of rock phosphate and 40,000 MT of MOP fertilizer. This decision aims to meet the rising demand for essential agricultural inputs in the country. The approvals were made during the third meeting of the Advisers Council Committee on Government Purchase, chaired by Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, adviser to the interim government on Finance and Commerce, at the Bangladesh Secretariat.
In line with a proposal from the Ministry of Industries, the government will acquire 25,000 MT of rock phosphate for TSPCL (TSP Chemical Limited). Additionally, responding to a proposal from the Ministry of Agriculture, 40,000 MT of MOP fertilizer will be sourced from the Canadian Commercial Corporation for the Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation (BADC).
Addressing concerns about the current power and energy situation, Dr. Salehuddin assured that the government is prioritizing proposals related to power and energy, including LNG procurement, alongside fertilizers and pesticides. He noted that these proposals are being expedited by the Economic Affairs Committee and the Purchase Committee despite existing challenges.
When questioned about when the power and energy situation might stabilize, Dr. Salehuddin suggested that inquiries should be directed to the relevant adviser for more detailed insights.
