Dhaka, Dec 26 (V7N): Four journalists, including the editor and managing editor of the Janabani newspaper, were injured in an attack by a group of miscreants near their office in Dhaka's Bangla Motor area on Wednesday afternoon.

The attack occurred around 4:30 pm as the journalists were heading to their office. The injured include Shafiqul Islam, the editor and publisher of Janabani, Managing Editor Raju Ahmed Shah, Special Correspondent Bashir Hossain Khan, and Online Editor Ataur Hossain. Bashir Hossain Khan described how a group of 20-22 men ambushed them unexpectedly.

"We didn’t immediately understand what was happening. It seemed like a planned attack, and we didn’t recognize any of the attackers," he said.

Bashir further revealed that earlier, a man named Ramzan had visited the Janabani office and issued threats to the staff. The attackers reportedly first inquired about the journalists’ identities before launching the assault. "It seemed as though someone had pointed us out," Bashir added.

The injured journalists were taken to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 6 pm for treatment and were later discharged. A report has been filed with Shahbagh Police Station, and a formal case is expected to be registered.

The incident has raised concerns over the safety and security of journalists in the country, as authorities are expected to take action to investigate the attack.
