Dhaka, June 7 (V7N) – Dhaka North and South City Corporations (DNCC and DSCC) have launched an extensive drive to remove sacrificial animal waste within 12 hours of Eid-ul-Azha celebrations. Over 20,000 sanitation workers have been deployed across various wards and neighborhoods to ensure a swift and hygienic cleanup operation.
Officials have confirmed that the formal waste removal efforts began at 3 pm on Saturday (June 7), shortly after the Eid prayers and animal sacrifices. Both city corporations have distributed approximately 1.39 million plastic, polybags, and biodegradable bags to residents in advance to facilitate efficient waste disposal.
Authorities estimate that around 700,000 animals will be sacrificed in the capital this year, generating more than 50,000 tons of waste. Cleanup operations have already commenced in markets and key public areas.
Despite the preparations, some city residents have voiced dissatisfaction with the city corporations' waste management performance. Complaints have surfaced regarding delays in collection and insufficient visibility of sanitation workers in certain areas.
The city corporations, however, remain optimistic that the capital will be completely free of sacrificial waste by tomorrow, promising continued efforts and rapid response through their waste management hotlines.
Officials urge residents to cooperate by disposing of waste properly and contacting the city corporation hotlines in case of delays or emergencies.
