Gazipur, Nov 06 (V7N)- Seven people, including an expatriate BNP leader, have been arrested in a joint force operation in Sreepur upazila of Gazipur. Law enforcement authorities have also recovered arms and ammunition during the raid.

The operation took place in Barkul village under Barmi Union in the early hours of Thursday (November 6).

According to army sources, the raid was conducted based on secret intelligence under the leadership of Major Khandaker Mohiuddin Alamgir, Superintendent of the Gazipur Army Camp.

Among the arrested is Alhaj Enamul Haque Molla (48), president of Mecca Mesfalah BNP in Saudi Arabia, who had recently been conducting extensive political campaigning for the BNP in Sreepur upazila. The others detained were identified as Shawkat Mir, Zahid, Mostafa, Siddique, Bulbul, and Tofazzal.

Though the army did not issue an official statement, sources said that firearms and other equipment were recovered during the operation.

Following the arrests, the detainees were handed over to Sreepur Police Station in the morning. Police officials confirmed that legal action is currently underway in connection with the incident.
