Dhaka, Jan 03, (V7N) - Initiatives are underway to enhance the efficiency and modernization of the Department of Environment, according to Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan. Speaking at the soft launch of the Bangladesh Single Window (BSW): Journey Towards Seamless Trade on Thursday, she revealed plans to digitize all services and make them accessible online, with improved coordination between various government agencies.
Hasan emphasized that environmental clearances, often viewed as mere formalities, will now be issued only after thorough verification and scrutiny. She also highlighted the importance of integrating environmental standards into the trade facilitation process, particularly through the BSW system, to monitor and address potential environmental impacts from import-export activities, especially those that could harm sensitive ecosystems.
The event, held at the Radisson Blu Water Garden Hotel in Dhaka, was also attended by Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, Adviser to the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Science and Technology, who was the chief guest. Md. Abdur Rahman Khan FCMA, Secretary of the Internal Resources Division and Chairman of the National Board of Revenue, chaired the program.
The launch marked a key step toward improving trade efficiency while ensuring environmental accountability in Bangladesh.
