Dhaka, Sep 20 (V7N) - Climate financing must be entirely allocated to renewable energy. Currently, most energy sources are heavily dependent on polluting and expensive fossil fuels, which are significantly contributing to global warming. Fossil fuels are a primary driver of climate change. While G7 countries continue to pledge their commitment to climate finance, they consistently fall short of fulfilling their promises. This was the key message at a bicycle rally and protest meeting held on Friday at 10 AM in Mongla’s Mithakhali Bazar, organized by Dharitri Rokkhae Amra (DRA), Waterkeepers Bangladesh, and the Pashur River Waterkeeper, focusing on “Climate Financing and Fossil Fuel Phase-Out.”

The event was presided over by Md. Nur Alam Sheikh, a climate warrior and representative of the Pashur River Waterkeeper, who also served as the chief guest. Among the other speakers were Nazmul Haque from DRA, Nazmul Haque from Waterkeepers Bangladesh, and lyricist Molla Al Mamun. The participants emphasized the need for climate debt cancellation and reallocating military budgets to boost climate finance.

Md. Nur Alam Sheikh, the chief guest, stressed, "Funding for fossil fuels must end. We want to survive the rising heat of climate change. Climate finance must come in billions, not millions. Western nations need to fulfill their commitments to the climate fund." Rally participants carried colorful banners and placards demanding an end to fossil fuel dependency and addressing the urgency of climate change.
