Dhaka, Mar 23 (V7N) – Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam has announced the completion of the investigation into the case of six individuals who were murdered and their bodies burned in Ashulia. This marks the first completed case among the July-August genocide cases currently under investigation.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday (March 23), Tajul Islam stated that the Chief Prosecutor’s Office will file a formal complaint after further scrutiny and review of the findings. He also indicated that the investigation reports for three to four additional cases are expected to be submitted after Eid, including a case against Sheikh Hasina.

During the press conference, the Chief Prosecutor noted that there is sufficient evidence to establish the Awami League’s involvement in the July killings. However, he clarified that prosecuting the party as a whole under the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) would require a political decision.

“The tribunal has enough evidence linking the League to the incidents in July. But whether the party as an entity will face trial depends on political decisions at the highest level,” Tajul Islam stated.

The case has drawn significant attention, given its connection to the broader investigations into war crimes and mass killings committed during the political turmoil of 2024. Legal analysts suggest that these cases could set a historic precedent in Bangladesh’s judicial history.

Further updates are expected as the formal complaint is filed and the trial process progresses.
