Dhaka, Mar 27 (V7N) – The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) is expected to begin the trial for genocide cases related to the July-August student movement after Eid, as per Chief Prosecutor Advocate Tajul Islam. The tribunal is in the final stages of investigation against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, with an extensive number of documents involved in the command responsibility case.

Tajul Islam made these remarks while speaking to journalists at the tribunal premises on Thursday afternoon.

"The tribunal's command responsibility case against Sheikh Hasina involves the largest number of documents. The final stage of the investigation is underway. We hope to proceed with this after Eid."

The investigation into the Chankharpul murder case, the second case from the July massacre, has been completed. On August 5, seven people were shot dead in Chankharpul, and the probe has identified eight accused individuals. A draft report has already been prepared.

Additionally, the investigation into the Ashulia, Savar mass uprising case, where six bodies were burned, is also in its final stage. The tribunal extended the deadline for submitting the investigation report to April 28.

"The draft of the investigation report is already with us. It may take just a few more days for finalization. Since the court has extended the deadline, we will formally submit it after Eid and proceed with the trial through a formal complaint," said Tajul Islam.

As the tribunal moves forward with these cases, the nation awaits the first steps toward justice for the events of the July-August student movement.
