Dhaka, Oct 29 (V7N)- The High Court has formed an expert committee to investigate the overall safety and accident issues of the metro rail and ordered it to submit a report within 30 days.

At the same time, the court issued a rule asking why the family of Abul Kalam Azad, who was killed after a bearing pad fell from a metro rail pillar, should not be paid Tk 2 crore in compensation.

A High Court bench comprising Justice Fahmida Qadir and Justice Asif Hasan passed the order on Wednesday (October 29) following an initial hearing on a public interest writ petition.

Earlier, on Monday morning, Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Abdullah Al Mamun filed the writ petition seeking judicial intervention over the safety of the metro rail system.

Last Sunday, pedestrian Abul Kalam Azad died when a bearing pad fell from a metro rail pillar in the Farmgate area of the capital. Following the incident, authorities announced Tk 5 lakh in compensation for his family.

Notably, a similar incident of a pad falling off the metro line occurred last year, raising ongoing concerns about maintenance and public safety.
