Dhaka, Nov 06 (V7N)- The High Court has granted bail to former Textiles and Jute Minister Abdul Latif Siddiqui in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Shahbagh Police Station in the capital. Journalist Manjurul Alam Panna has also been granted bail in the same case.
The bail order was passed by a bench of Justice ASM Abdul Mobin and Justice Sagir Hossain on Thursday (November 6).
Earlier, on August 29, a lower court had ordered the jailing of 16 people, including Abdul Latif Siddiqui and Dhaka University Professor Hafizur Rahman Curzon, in connection with the same case.
Following the verdict, Latif Siddiqui’s lawyer and his brother Bangabir Quader Siddiqui expressed satisfaction with the High Court’s bail order. However, state prosecutors have stated that the government will appeal against the bail decision.
According to case details, on August 28, police arrested several individuals — including Abdul Latif Siddiqui, Hafizur Rahman Curzon, and Md. Abdullah Al Amin — from an event organized by Manch-71 at Dhaka Reporters Unity. They were sent to jail the following day under the Anti-Terrorism Act.
