Dhaka, Nov 10 (V7N) — The Appellate Division has upheld the High Court’s bail order for former minister Abdul Latif Siddiqui in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act, clearing the way for his release from prison.

A three-member appellate bench, led by Justice Zubair Rahman Chowdhury, passed the order on Monday (November 10).

The court also stated that an order regarding journalist Manjurul Alam Panna’s bail will be issued after receiving the High Court’s written order. However, the Appellate Division clarified that Panna will remain in custody until then.

Earlier, the state filed a petition with the Chamber Court seeking a stay on the High Court’s bail order. On November 6, a High Court bench of Justice ASM Abdul Mobin and Justice Sagir Hossain granted bail to the accused under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Latif Siddiqui, along with 15 others including Hafizur Rahman Karzon and Md. Abdullah Al Amin, was arrested on August 28 during a program organized by Manch-71 at the Dhaka Reporters Unity. The next day, all were sent to jail following a court order.
