Dhaka, Jan 04 (V7N)—A theft took place at Crown Diamond and Jewellers in Dhaka's Shimanto Square shopping mall during Friday prayers.

The theft, caught on CCTV, lasted seven minutes and 25 seconds, during which nearly 159 bhori of gold was stolen.

Footage shows nine individuals arriving at the store at 1:01pm. Seven wore masks, while one used a sheet to cover the shutter and two others cut the lock.

One person entered the store, while the rest moved around nearby shops, keeping other staff occupied.

Minutes later, the person inside came out with a bag of gold, and the group left.

At the time, the shop's staff had locked the shutter and gone for prayers. The store owner, Kazi Akash, filed a case after the theft.

Dhanmondi police station Inspector Abdul Alim said: “We are analyzing the CCTV footage to identify the suspects.”

Police are also looking into whether anyone from the mall was involved.

Owner Kazi Akash said: “The shutter was locked while our staff went to pray. The thieves broke the lock, entered, and took all the gold.”

An investigation is ongoing.
