Mongla, Dec 07 (V7N) – The Coast Guard has arrested a wildlife smuggler in Mongla with a rare species of monitor lizard in his possession. According to Lieutenant Commander Md. Muntasir Ibne Mohsin, media officer of the Coast Guard’s Western Zone (Mongla) headquarters, the arrest took place on Saturday at around 2:00 pm near the Permanent Port Bus Stand following a tip-off.
During the operation, Coast Guard personnel seized the monitor lizard and detained the alleged trafficker. Legal proceedings against the suspect and confiscated wildlife are currently underway.
Lt. Commander Mohsin emphasized that the Coast Guard will continue such operations to protect the Sundarbans’ natural resources, preserve biodiversity, and prevent wildlife trafficking in the future. The agency urged the public to assist authorities in safeguarding endangered species and maintaining ecological balance in the region.
