DHAKA, Jan 5, (V7N) - A court in Dhaka today sentenced three individuals to death for the murder of Ismail Hossain Jisan, a student of the European University of Bangladesh.
The verdict was delivered by Dhaka's 5th Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge, Farjana Yasmin, in the presence of two of the convicts: Hasibul Hossain alias Hasib and Abdullah Al Noman. A third convict, Shrabon alias Shaon, remains at large, and the court issued an arrest warrant for him.
Additionally, Sajani Akter, one of the accused, was acquitted as the charges against her were not substantiated by the prosecution.
Details of the Case
Jisan, a Civil Engineering student at the university, was also working as a Pathao rider. He went missing from Shyamoli in Dhaka on May 12, 2019. His father, Sabbir Hossain Sahid, filed a general diary with the Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station.
Jisan's decomposed body was found in the septic tank of Hasibul Hossain's house in Moddho Kamar Juri, Gazipur, on May 23, 2019. A case was filed by his father the same day.
The investigation led to the charge sheet being filed by the police in January 2020, naming four accused. The court formally began the trial in March 2022.
After reviewing 18 out of 25 witnesses, the court delivered its judgment today, bringing an end to the trial.
