Hobiganj, Mar 10, (V7N) - After nearly three years of legal battles, Nurul Hasan Topu has finally taken the oath as the elected member of Ward No. 9 in Noapara Union, following a court ruling that overturned the false declaration of his defeat in the 2022 Madhabpur Union Parishad elections. The oath was administered by Upazila Executive Officer Zahid Bin Kashem at the Upazila Parishad meeting room on March 10, 2025.

Nurul Hasan initially won the election by 533 votes, but his rival candidate, Islam Uddin, was incorrectly declared the winner due to manipulation in vote counting. After filing a case at the Habiganj Election Tribunal, a recount confirmed Hasan's victory and exposed significant electoral fraud involving several election officials. The court found evidence of a conspiracy to manipulate results, leading to directives for action against those responsible.

Despite challenges from Islam Uddin, including appeals to higher courts, Nurul Hasan's victory was upheld by the Supreme Court. During the proceedings, concerns were raised about why criminal charges had not been filed against those involved in the electoral fraud. Hasan's lawyer condemned the manipulation as an attack on democracy and called for strict legal action.

Following the Election Commission's official declaration of Hasan as the winner on February 11, 2025, he expressed relief and gratitude after taking his oath. He stated that while his victory was delayed, justice has prevailed and emphasized the need for accountability for those who attempted to undermine his rightful win.
