DHAKA, March 10, (V7N) – The Bangladesh Bank (BB) has postponed the exchange of fresh notes for the public ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr, issuing a directive to all banks today.
According to the directive, bank branches holding fresh notes must not exchange them and should keep them in reserve, while all cash transactions should be completed using re-circulated notes.
A senior Bangladesh Bank official told BSS that the central bank plans to release newly designed banknotes in April-May as part of its currency update initiative.
As a result, the existing notes with the previous design are being gradually withdrawn from circulation, leading to the temporary suspension of fresh note exchanges.
