Pabna, Mar 12 (V7N) – Barrister Nazibur Rahman Momen, son of former Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and minister Maulana Matiur Rahman Nizami, has been officially announced as the party's candidate for the Pabna-1 (Santhia-Bera) constituency.

Jamaat-e-Islami Central Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan made the announcement during a special meeting at the Santhia Upazila Jamaat office on Wednesday morning. Speaking to reporters, he stated that due to past government persecution, no member of Nizami’s family could remain in the country. However, with the political changes following the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government on August 5, Momen has been chosen to contest the seat again.

There had been speculation about Jamaat's candidate in the constituency, as Abdul Based Khan, a former Ameer of Bera Upazila Jamaat and current central working committee member, had been actively campaigning. However, with Momen’s return, the party has now solidified its decision.

Momen, a barrister trained in London, has been practicing law since 2010 and was enrolled in the High Court in 2013. Following his father’s execution in 2016 for crimes against humanity, he went into exile in London. His return marks a significant political shift, and his candidacy signals Jamaat’s intent to reclaim its stronghold in Pabna-1.
