Pabna, Mar 12 (V7N) – Two people lost their lives, and another was injured in separate train accidents in Chatmohar and Bhangura upazilas of Pabna. One of the deceased was a 40-year-old woman, while the other was an elderly man whose identity remains unknown.
The first accident occurred on Wednesday morning when Majiron Khatun (40) was walking along the railway tracks near Bhangura rail gate on her way to her father's house in Chatmohar. At around 7:30 AM, a freight train bound for Sirajganj struck her, severing both her legs and killing her instantly. Local sources believe she may not have heard the train approaching.
The second fatality was reported near the Dbigram Mosque in Chatmohar at around 2 AM on Tuesday. Locals found the body of a 70-year-old man on the railway tracks and informed the authorities. Witnesses claim that he was seen walking on the tracks when a speeding train hit him around 1 AM, killing him on the spot. Locals suspect he may have been mentally unstable, as he was wandering alone at the time of the accident.
Sirajganj Railway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Dulal Uddin confirmed the incidents and stated,
"A woman was crushed to death by a freight train on Wednesday morning. The railway police recovered the body from Chatmohar. Efforts are ongoing to identify the elderly man. The bodies will be handed over to the families after legal procedures are completed."
