Pabna, 18 (V7N) – Leaders of the Volunteer Party in Chatmohar, Pabna, have been accused of illegally extracting soil from the Gumani River using a vacuum machine. Reports suggest that a youth party leader is also involved in the activity.

During an on-the-spot visit near Bausha Ghat in Nimaichara Union, soil was seen removed from the riverbank, with a digging machine parked nearby. Locals claimed the extraction occurs mostly at night. They alleged that Liton Fakir, president of the Nimaichara Union Volunteers' Party, Sachchu Hossain, joint general secretary, and Mostafa Fakir, former general secretary of the Union Jubo Dal, were behind the land grabbing.

Denying the allegations, Liton Fakir stated, "I am not involved in cutting soil from the riverbed. I own a vehicle and know what happens in the area. However, I don't know who is cutting the soil." Meanwhile, Chatmohar Upazila Volunteer Party member secretary Asaduzzaman Lebu acknowledged the reports circulating on social media, saying, "If anyone from our organization is involved, we will take necessary action after verification."

Chatmohar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Musa Naser Chowdhury confirmed an ongoing investigation, urging locals to cooperate by providing evidence. He assured that strict action will be taken against those violating the law.
