Pabna, Mar 19 (V7N)– A 70-year-old man, Shamsher Ali, has been arrested by police in Pabna after local residents apprehended him for attempting to rape a six-year-old child.

The incident occurred on Tuesday evening, March 18, in Baghalbari village of Handial union. Shamsher Ali allegedly lured the child to his home under the pretense of playing in a waterhole. He is the son of the late Darog Ali from the same village.

According to the police report and local sources, Shamsher Ali took the child to his son Hashem Ali's empty house after Iftar. He then attempted to rape the child, who screamed, prompting Shamsher Ali to flee.

Upon learning of the incident, the child's family and local residents gathered, apprehended Shamsher Ali, and physically assaulted him before handing him over to the police. Law enforcement officers arrived at the scene and took Shamsher Ali into custody.

"Locals have arrested an elderly man named Shamsher Ali (70) and handed him over to the police on charges of attempting to rape a six-year-old child by luring him to play in a waterhole in Pabna," a police source confirmed.

Chatmohar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Manjurul Alam stated that the child's mother filed a case with the police station. Shamsher Ali was arrested and subsequently sent to jail on Wednesday morning.

The incident has caused significant outrage within the local community, highlighting concerns about child safety and the need for stringent measures to protect vulnerable individuals.
