Pabna, Mar 22 (V7N)– A man has been killed, allegedly by his son, with an axe in Santhia, Pabna, following a dispute over cutting bamboo. The tragic incident occurred on Saturday morning, March 22, in Paikarhati village of Kashinathpur upazila. "A son has been accused of killing his father with an axe in Santhia, Pabna, after he asked him to cut bamboo," confirmed Santhia Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saidur Rahman. The deceased has been identified as Abdul Malek, 50, son of Taijal Sheikh of Paikarhati village. The accused is his son, Manik, 25.

According to police and local sources, Abdul Malek asked his son Manik to take an axe and cut bamboo while he went to work in the fields. When Manik refused, an argument ensued. In the heat of the moment, Manik allegedly attacked his father with the axe, fatally injuring him. He then fled the scene.

"In the morning, while father Malek was out for agricultural work in the field, he asked his son Manik to take an axe and go cut bamboo. But when the son did not want to go, an argument broke out between the two. At one point, the son Manik hacked his father with the axe in his hand, injuring him and fled. As a result, father Malek died on the spot," a police report stated.

OC Saidur Rahman said, "It is initially known that the murder took place after a quarrel between father and son. Efforts are underway to arrest the accused son. The body of the deceased has been recovered and sent to the Pabna General Hospital morgue for autopsy."
