Nalchiti, Jhalakathi, Apr 12 (V7N) – A man who spent a decade evading a six-month prison sentence for a drug-related offense in Nalchiti has finally been apprehended by law enforcement. Sohel Hawlader, 35, was arrested by police on Friday afternoon, bringing an end to his ten years on the run.
"A man named Sohel Howlader (35) was sentenced to six months in a drug case. He escaped for ten years to avoid that sentence, but was ultimately arrested by the police," reported a Jhalakathi Representative.
Hawlader was subsequently sent to Jhalakathi District Jail by court order on Saturday morning. His arrest was the result of a police raid conducted on Friday afternoon.
"He was sent to Jhalakathi District Jail by the court on Saturday (April 12) morning. Earlier, he was arrested in a raid on Friday (April 11) afternoon," the report confirmed.
The arrest was confirmed by Nalchiti Police Station Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Kawsar Ahmed Siddiqui.
"The matter was confirmed by Nalchiti Police Station Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Kawsar Ahmed Siddiqui," the ASI stated.
Sohel Hawlader is identified as the son of the late Harun Howlader, residing in the Mallikpur area of Nalchiti Municipality.
"Sohel Hawlader is the son of the late Harun Howlader of Mallikpur area of Nalchiti Municipality," the report specified.
According to ASI Kawsar Ahmed Siddiqui of Nalchithi Police Station, Sohel Hawlader was a fugitive accused with an outstanding arrest warrant for a six-month sentence in a case filed under the Narcotics Control Act of 2014 in Barisal Sadar Upazila. He had been in hiding for the past ten years to avoid serving his sentence. Police conducted a raid in the Nalchithi bus stand area, leading to his successful arrest. He has since been remanded to judicial custody.
"ASI Kawsar Ahmed Siddiqui of Nalchithi Police Station said that Sohel Howlader is a fugitive accused who has been sentenced to 6 months in a case under the Narcotics Control Act of 2014 in Barisal Sadar Upazila and has an arrest warrant. He has been in hiding to avoid punishment. We conducted a raid and arrested him from the Nalchithi bus stand area. He has been sent to jail through the court," ASI Siddiqui detailed.
