Kanthalia, Jhalakathi, Apr 17 (V7N)– A 50-year-old farmer named Oliur Rahman Biswas tragically died after being struck by lightning in the Aurabunia area of Kathaliya upazila, Jhalakathi, on Thursday afternoon. He was reportedly attempting to bring his cows in from a field when the incident occurred.
"A farmer named Oliur Rahman Biswas (50) died after being struck by lightning while trying to bring cows from a field in Kathaliya, Jhalakathi," a Jhalakathi Representative reported.
The fatal incident took place in the Aurabunia area of the upazila on Thursday, April 17th, in the afternoon.
"The incident occurred in the Aurabunia area of the upazila on Thursday (April 17) afternoon," the report confirmed.
Bazlur Rahman, a local Union Parishad (UP) member, verified the unfortunate event.
"Local UP member Bazlur Rahman confirmed the matter," the report stated.
The deceased, Oliur Rahman Biswas, was identified as the son of the late Kazhem Ali Biswas, also from the same area.
"The deceased, Aliur Rahman Biswas, was the son of the deceased Kazhem Ali Biswas of the same area," the correspondent noted.
Local residents recounted that a sudden windstorm swept through the area in the afternoon. Oliur Rahman Biswas went to the field adjacent to his home to retrieve his cattle. It was at this point that he was struck by lightning and collapsed in the field. Nearby residents rushed to his aid, rescued him, and transported him to a hospital. However, upon arrival, a medical professional pronounced him dead.
"Locals said that a sudden windstorm started in the afternoon. Oliur Rahman went to the field next to his house to bring cows. At that time, he fell in the field after being struck by lightning. Later, locals rescued him and took him to the hospital, where the doctor declared him dead," the report detailed.
