Nalchiti, Jhalakathi, Apr 17 (V7N)– In a crackdown on examination malpractice, authorities in Nalchiti, Jhalakathi, have expelled eight candidates and dismissed nine teachers, including the center secretary and hall superintendent, for alleged involvement in cheating during the ongoing entrance examinations.

"In Nalchiti, Jhalakathi, 8 candidates have been expelled for allegedly engaging in illegal activities in the ongoing entrance examination. Nalchiti Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Nazrul Islam has relieved 9 teachers, including the center secretary and hall super, from their duties for cooperating with them," a Jhalakathi Representative reported.

The incident occurred during the entrance mathematics examination held at the Hadua Baisakhia Fazil Madrasa center on Thursday, April 17th. The expelled students, all from Hadua Baisakhia Fazil Madrasa, have been identified as Srabani Akhter, Hafizul Islam, Towhidul Islam, Mostafizur Rahman, Rabiul Khan, Rayyan, Abdullah, and Md. Sayem.

"The incident occurred during the entrance mathematics exam at the Hadua Baisakhia Fazil Madrasa center on Thursday (April 17)... The expelled students are Srabani Akhter, Hafizul Islam, Towhidul Islam, Mostafizur Rahman, Rabiul Khan, Rayyan, Abdullah, and Md. Sayem. They are all students of Hadua Baisakhia Fazil Madrasa," the report detailed.

Nalchiti Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Md. Nazrul Islam took swift action, relieving nine teachers of their examination duties for allegedly facilitating the cheating. This dismissal means they will be barred from participating in and performing any examination-related duties this year.

"Nalchiti Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md. Nazrul Islam has relieved 9 teachers, including the center secretary and hall super, from their duties for cooperating with them. They will no longer be able to participate in the examination and perform their duties this year," the correspondent noted.

The dismissed teachers include:

  • Md. Abdur Rob, Superintendent and Central Secretary, Char Amtali Salehia Dakhil Madrasa (Center Secretary)
  • Md. Hossain (Hall Superintendent)
  • Rafiqul Islam, Assistant Teacher, Chhailabunia Dakhil Madrasa
  • Mahmudul Hasan, Assistant Teacher, Taltola Dakhil Madrasa
  • Emdadul Haque, Teacher, Pilot Dakhil Madrasa
  • Rezaul Karim, Teacher, Debra Dakhil Madrasa
  • Zahirul Islam, Teacher, Veronbaria Madrasa
  • Nibaron Jomaddar, Teacher, Char Amtali Dakhil Madrasa
  • Faruk Hossain, Assistant Teacher, Taltola Madrasa

"The exempted teachers are: Central Secretary Char Amtali Salehia Dakhil Madrasa Superintendent Md. Abdur Rob, Hall Superintendent Md. Hossain... In addition, the 7 teachers are Rafiqul Islam... Mahmudul Hasan... Emdadul Haque... Rezaul Karim... Zahirul Islam... Nibaron Jomaddar... and Faruk Hossain..." the report listed.

UNO Md. Nazrul Islam stated that the eight students were expelled for offenses including possessing unauthorized books and papers, and copying. The seven other teachers were dismissed for aiding the students in these activities, while the center secretary and hall superintendent were penalized for neglecting their supervisory responsibilities.

"Upazila Executive Officer Md. Nazrul Islam said that 8 students were expelled for stealing books, papers and writing by sight, 7 teachers were dismissed for helping them, and the center secretary and hall superintendent were dismissed for neglecting their duties," UNO Islam affirmed.

According to sources from the Upazila Executive Officer's office, a total of 3,760 students are participating in the entrance examinations across nine centers in Nalchiti this year. With this latest incident, the total number of students expelled in Nalchiti Upazila so far stands at 15, and the number of teachers dismissed has reached 18, highlighting a significant crackdown on examination irregularities.

"According to sources from the Upazila Executive Officer's office, 3,760 students participated in the exam at 9 centers in Nalchiti this year. So far, 15 students have been expelled and 18 teachers have been dismissed in Nalchiti Upazila," the report concluded.
