Barguna, Bangladesh - The Coast Guard in Barguna's Patharghata area has seized 90 kg of deer meat, including 17 deer legs, along with a motorized wooden boat. The operation, conducted in the Haringhata area near the Bishkhali River under Patharghata Upazila, took place between 7:30 PM and 10:00 PM on Friday, April 25th, based on confidential information.
During the search of the engine-powered wooden boat, the Coast Guard recovered the deer meat and the boat. However, those involved in the suspected meat smuggling managed to evade arrest by fleeing the scene upon detecting the Coast Guard's presence.
The Coast Guard's Media Officer, Lt. Commander HM Harun Or-Rashid, confirmed the incident in a press release issued at 2:00 PM on Saturday (April 26th). The seized meat and boat were subsequently handed over to the Patharghata Forest Department for necessary legal action.
Lt. Commander HM Harun Or-Rashid emphasized the Coast Guard's commitment to maintaining law and order, controlling drug trafficking, ensuring public safety, and adopting a zero-tolerance policy against piracy, forest robbery, and the protection of forest resources within their jurisdiction. He affirmed that such operations would continue in the future.
Abul Kalam Azad, the Patharghata Range Officer, confirmed the receipt of the 90 kg of deer meat. He stated that the meat has been preserved as the Senior Judicial Magistrate's court was closed on Saturday, and further action would be taken according to the Senior Judicial Magistrate's instructions.
