Pabna, Sept 8 (V7N) – Police have arrested Md. Bakibillah, former chairman of Bhangura Upazila Parishad and secretary for science and technology of Pabna District Awami League, in connection with an explosives case.

Bakibillah, a resident of Rangalia village in Par-Bhangura Union and son of Abul Kashem, was taken into custody early Sunday morning from his home in Bhangura municipality. He has previously served multiple terms as Upazila Chairman and municipal mayor.

According to Shafiqul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Bhangura Police Station, the case relates to a grenade explosion that occurred in May this year in front of the BNP office in Ashtomonisha Union and the personal office of Union BNP convener Mozammel Haque.

On May 12, 2025, BNP leader Moyshar Ali filed a case under the Explosives Act. The case named 18 leaders and activists of the Awami League and its student wing, Chhatra League, along with 40–50 unidentified individuals as accused.

Bakibillah was arrested in connection with this explosive and sabotage case from Ashtomonisha Union. Following legal procedures, he was presented in court on Sunday afternoon and subsequently sent to jail.
