Panchagarh, Nov 07 (V7N) — A record 1,701 metric tons of potatoes were exported to Nepal in a single day through the Banglabandha Land Port, Bangladesh’s only gateway connected to four countries — Bangladesh, Nepal, India, and Bhutan.

According to port officials, eight Bangladeshi companies exported this large volume of potatoes throughout Thursday. The exporters include Miami Trading, Fast Delivery International, Trend Robo, Barun Agro Limited, Thinks to Supply, Zafrin Agro, M/s Habib International, and Agrotech BD.

Nur Hasan, Additional Deputy Director of the Banglabandha Land Port Plant Quarantine Center, confirmed the information. He said, “Samples are collected and tested after each consignment arrives at the port. Once the test results are approved, export clearance is issued.”

He added that 41 trucks, each carrying 21 metric tons of potatoes, were dispatched to Biratnagar in Nepal’s Morang district via Bangladeshi transport.

The exported potatoes were mainly sourced from Thakurgaon, Dinajpur, and Bogra districts.

So far this season, a total of 44,415 metric tons of potatoes have been exported through the Banglabandha Land Port, contributing positively to the government’s revenue and highlighting the region’s growing agricultural trade potential.
