Dinajpur, Nov 10 (V7N) — After a long 11-year hiatus, apple imports from India have officially resumed through the Hili land port in Dinajpur. The trade resumed on Sunday afternoon, as a truck loaded with apples entered Bangladesh via the port.
On the first day, 25,332 kilograms of apples were imported by Khawaja Ajmeri Traders, a Chittagong-based importing company. The apples were sourced from Kashmir, India.
Officials at the port expressed optimism that the resumption of fruit imports would boost government revenue and increase port activity.
The Deputy Assistant Quarantine Officer at the Hili Land Port Plant Quarantine Center said,
“A truck of fruit has been imported from India through Hili land port after a long time. However, no importer has yet applied for a release certificate. Once the application is submitted, we will conduct necessary examinations and issue the certificate promptly. After that, importers can complete the customs process and release their goods.”
The reopening of apple imports marks a significant step in strengthening Bangladesh–India agricultural trade ties, potentially benefiting both importers and local consumers.
